French Design by VIA Gallery
The French Design by VIA is pleased to welcome in its exhibition area 3 studios together to present a personal approach to the material: glass, ceramic and leather, carbon fiber etc
This exhibition presents the artist-designer residency carried out by Sophia Taillet at the Yzeure Glass Training Center. Linked to a reflection on the predetermined functionality of industrial materials, this exhibition is the culmination of research around glass and its various transformation techniques. This research was carried out with the complicity of apprentice craftsmen of the Glass Center. Inspired by the games of reflection and texture caused by water and light rays. Sophia Taillet explores the varieties of textures and forms of this material. Thanks to high-temperature ovens, she discovers a formal vocabulary that gradually develops into a series of furniture: the CURVE collection. The stability of each object is based on the interdependence between surface and support, imbalance and weightlessness to draw an airy and luminous design.
Studiofoam presents 'Carnation' for the first time, a research in progress by designer Caroline Venet. She currently works on a limited series of unique vases, handmade in Paris, in collaboration with ceramist Fanny Richard.
The 'Carnation' project combines porcelain and leather as upcycled materials. The molded leather is shaped on each vase as a yoke or accessory, an enveloping piece with different shades of skin tones. Each yoke sublimates leather wastes, parts of the skin unfortunately always thrown out. The porcelain earth is recycled, reused in the daily practice of the ceramist, then worked as a second skin to shape the body of vases. Upcycled leather is designed to interact with the vegetal. Specifically for the exhibition, Studiofoam will collaborate and show vegetal creations of Catalina Lainé, staged on 'Carnation' vases.
