Salomé Bourny graduated from ECAL in 2012. She then moved to London, where she worked for internationally renowned designers including Michael Anastassiades, Bill Skinner and eyewear manufacturer Fabris Lane Ltd. These experiences changed her approach to objects, and she started to understand them as a vector for social contact. As she worked with more and more creatives, she naturally explored different artisanal techniques, cultures and technologies, and started to capture their essence in various evocative types of products. She opened her studio in 2016 and her O.D.M. lamp won the Public Prize at the 9th Cinna awards.
“Sofa Fan emerged out of a collaboration between ECAL and de Sede. When I visited the factory, I was fascinated by these huge tanned skins and their different aspects - they were raw and supple at the same time. I thought it would be interesting to play with these striking contrasts as I formulated the basic design for a rectilinear yet undulating sofa that users would experience in a pluralistic way,” Salomé Bourny
The Sofa Fan project was launched in 2012. Thanks to the French Design Incubator and Burov’s expert skills, it is now being reinvented using fabric by Gabriel. This latest evolution is both subtle and contemporary, with curves and geometrical lines alternating to form different folds and thicknesses that create visual continuity across the sofa’s different sections. Its framework and feet make it an extremely comfortable item to sit on.
