A contemporary arts centre created in 1983 by the French Ministry of Culture, the CIRVA, International Glass and Visual Arts Research Centre, has been based in Marseille since 1986. A glass production, research and contemporary design centre, the CIRVA welcomes artists, designers and architects working in various fields who want to add glass to their creative process. These artists develop their research and production projects, with the help of the Centre’s technical team, according to the qualities and rhythm of each project.
In 30 years, the CIRVA has welcomed 200 artists, in the fields of contemporary art, design and decorative arts, including Pierre Soulages, Gilles Barbier, Giuseppe Penone and Jean-Michel Othoniel, to name a few.
The CIRVA boasts a collection of around 600 pieces of work which are displayed at exhibitions or in museums and art centres around the world.
