Jean-Charles de Castelbajac is one of those iconic transgenerational designer – not so much for his designs in themselves, but for the complete, polymorphic body of work that he has been building up over decades. His thought process is like a rhizome, shooting out a thousand concepts in a thousand directions, each giving birth to a design, a sound, a collaboration, a stage production, a drawing.
This multi-faceted artist does not define himself only through the restricted lens of fashion. Everything the image factories – the cinema, the theatre, art, Disney, television, comics, fashion and more – give us to see and look at he glues, assembles, twists, appropriates, quotes, parodies and reproduces through “mise en abyme”… His chromatic prism has expanded internationally and has taken up residence in the four corners of the world through a multidisciplinary universe that combines music, art, history and poetry.
