The Tolix journey began with Xavier Pauchard, an inventive entrepreneur based in Autun, Burgundy. He registered the trademark Tolix when he turned to the production of chairs and metal furniture. Stainless, robust, stackable, the various models found their place in workshops, offices, on café terraces and in public parks.
The Model A chair has become an icon of industrial aesthetics. It’s unfailing popularity since 1934 has enabled it to enter the collections of the Vitra Design Museum, MoMA and the Pompidou centre.
In 2004, Tolix began working with designers like Sebastian Bergne, Patrick Norguet, Frédéric Gaunet and Normal Studio to breathe new life into the brand and expand its product range.
Tolix was awarded the French “Entreprise du Patrimoine Vivant” (Living Heritage Company) label.
