The Mobilier national is a national service agency under the supervision of the French Ministry of Culture and Communication, formerly known as the Garde-Meuble de la Couronne. It is home to a collection comprising 100,000 pieces of furniture and textiles, purchases and orders once destined for royals and imperial guards which today furnish the French Republic’s official buildings. To ensure the preservation of these collections, regularly showcased in exhibitions or museums and historic monuments, it has seven restoration workshops to perpetuate this tradition of excellence. It combines these tasks with the vitality of artistic creation, with textile manufacturers the Gobelins, Beauvais and Savonnerie, as well as the lace workshops of Puy-en-Velay and Alençon, but also contemporary design, with a creation and research workshop, producing prototypes designed by French and international designers.
