Pierre Charpin graduated from Beaux-Arts de Bourges art school in 1984 and he designs furniture and homeware.
After an initial exhibition at the Galerie Perkal, he was able to develop his Folding Chair project thanks to a FIACRE grant. In 1995, he received a Carte Blanche grant from VIA.
His practice has developed around experimental projects at CIRVA and CRAFT, as well as collaborations with design companies such as Alessi, the Cristallerie de Saint-Louis, Hermès Maison, Ligne Roset, Magis, the Manufacture Nationale de Sèvres, Tectona, Wrong.London and 1616 / Arita Japan.
His pieces have been exhibited by La Galerie kreo since 2005 and they have been included in multiple collections. His work has been curated by the French Fonds National d’Art Contemporain, the Musée National d’Art Moderne/Centre de Création Industrielle, the Musée des Arts Décoratifs and the Indianapolis Museum of Art
Pierre Charpin has been chosen as the Salon Maison & Objets’ Designer of the Year 2017.
